St. Paul - The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development has awarded a $326,171 Minnesota Job Skills Partnership grant to support lean health care training for the Riverwood Healthcare Center workforce. Training is expected to enhance the quality of care and keep costs down.
Riverwood Healthcare, Central Lakes College, Itasca Community College and the MJSP will lead the two-year training collaboration. Riverwood Healthcare Center will contribute more than $508,000 to fund the training project.
Central Lakes College, Itasca Community College and Riverwood Healthcare Center will collaborate to provide entry-level and advanced training, retraining and mentoring to 367 allied health, nursing and administrative professionals. Courses will include workplace organization/5S system, principles of continuous improvement in healthcare, and health sigma.
“Riverwood employees will be more equipped to meet the changing and increasing demands of the workplace and customers as a result of this training,” said DEED Commissioner and MJSP Board Chair Dan McElroy. “The academic partners will develop added capacity to deliver lean health care training to other health care organizations.”
The MJSP offers technical, financial and job training assistance to businesses, communities, educational institutions and workers. The board brings businesses with specific education needs together with educational institutions to design customized training programs.
